My Aunt (young 51) and I (normal 41) are spending a week on Barbados and then a weeks cruise 24/3/10 - 7/4/10 (having my 42nd birthday in the Caribbean.

We know where, when, how etc but now have to decide between the two hotels.

I've read differing reviews and am inclined to go Escape BUT the travel agent said that BBC appeared to be the better bet.

Any feedback would be good - also names for people to book trips with etc as i know it's cheaper to buy 'local'.

I look forward to any replies.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Escape at the Gap is a basic all inclusive hotel situated on arguably the best stretch of beach in Barbados. Don't expect luxuries and you'll be fine. You're virtually in the centre of St. Lawrence Gap.

Can't speak for the Barbados Beach Club as I have never visited the hotel.

Reviews for both of these hotels are very mixed but it looks like Escape at the Gap is more favourable.

Excursions can be booked through your travel agent but you may very well find the same or similar excursion cheaper locally. In your room you should find a copy of "Ins and Outs of Barbados" with adverts and contact details of most excursion providers. You could get the hotel to book these for you or alternatively you can call them yourself (local calls in Barbados are free - but check with the hotel first just incase they charge for these).

I wouldn't recommend purchasing from beach/street vendors as insurance for these trips may not be provided or is inadequate.

What kind of excursions are you looking into?

Thanks for your reply - don't even know what excursions there are - i saw a few comments about the turtles and then a jeep safari - not sure what else there is
